A Pentathlon( derived from Greek meaning Penta (five) and athlon (competition) is a contest featuring five different sports events testing your various skills in one day. Schemed and documented in 708 BC, which occurred at Ancient Olympic Games, which turned out to be very popular. Pentathletes are considered to be very skilled athletes and there training is generally part of Military services. That was Ancient Pentathlon.
The father of Modern Pentathlon Baron Pierre de Coubertin who invented this modern Olympics with variations in Ancient Pentathlon, with competition over five track and field events – SHOOTING, SWIMMING, FENCING, EQUESTRIAN AND CROSS COUNTRY RUNNING.
He founded the modern pentathlon believing the event would test a man's/women moral qualities as much as his physical resources and skills, thereby producing the ideal, complete athlete. Modern pentathlon is a true representation of the Olympic movement. |
